Consider Thanksgiving Day, that peaceful observance squeezed between the sugar rush of Halloween and the hectic rush to deck the halls. What other day of the year is set aside, by government proclamation, to reflect on the ways God has blessed us?
As believers, we are called to give thanks in everything (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). Despite a tanking economy, wars on two fronts, staggering unemployment figures, and uncertainty about the healthcare system, we still live in one of the most affluent nations in the world. In addition, we have the freedom to pass on our Christian faith and disciple our children without fear of persecution. Have you ever stopped to consider what God had in mind when he blessed America? Here’s a short, kid-friendly devotion that will help your family (or children’s class) focus your hearts and minds as you celebrate Thanksgiving.
